The Male Gaze Theory
– The camera is a heterosexual male. The camera can be accused of objectifying
women. Some feminist theory states that women only exist as a metonym. This is
backed up by the male gaze theory. It is
only classed as the male gaze theory if the features of a woman are highlighted
via slow motion, deliberate camera movements and cuts. The theory suggests that women cannot view a
film unless it is from a male’s point of view (this is backed up by only 16% of ‘media creators’ being female).
